Planned obsolescence came from well before globalization. Light bulbs burnt out because long-lasting ones hirt sales. $5 sweatshop throwaway fast fashion, that can disappear without mention. Companies don't give too much of a crap about your preferences for longevity and maintenance.

All that is to say: there will be less international shipping involved in your lower-cost stuff, but landfilling and lack of control is here to stay. If you don't like that, start your own auto or phone handset company. Only EU-type regulations help.
